I originally wrote this poem in 1994, shortly after my wedding day, but I recently modified it to share in celebration of my husband’s forty-fifth birthday this year. Happy birthday, dear! After twenty-three years with you, you are still God’s special gift to me!
God has given me a special gift,
a blessing from above.
God has given me a special gift,
a man to hold and love.
God has given me a special gift,
a man so genuine and true.
God has given me a special gift,
that special gift is YOU!
You are my daily blessing,
a precious gift from above.
You are a gift so undeserved
and abounding with much love.
I thank God for you daily
and the special love we share.
Whether we are far or near,
our love is always there.
We have a love to last a lifetime,
a love strong and true.
Tested through life’s challenges and trials,
becoming more and more renewed.
I want you to know, my dear, from the depths of my heart,
I will always love you, till death do us part.
Your strong, tender, loving hands
still warm my heart with all their ways.
Your smile gives me sunshine
that continues to light up my days.
Your voice gives me comfort,
encouragement, and cheer.
I’m so very thankful for you, my beloved,
and I especially want you to know this on your birthday this year.
There is nothing more I can ask for,
for I am truly blessed.
